In Their Own Words
The “In Their Own WORDs” project exists to encourage, assist, and record native people using traditional music in worship or to tell Bible stories or Biblical principles and to distribute the recordings back into the culture at no or little costs to the listeners.
Recording Christian songs, Scripture or Biblical principles in this way allows people to understand the words the first time they hear it instead of having to work hard just to understand it, and it allows them to hear these ideas in a culturally relevant context. To present Christianity otherwise would be like asking them to choose between being who they were born to be and being Christian. This project is focused on letting people be who they are culturally and presenting Christianity not as something they have to accept in place of their culture.
We’ve got to find a better way, and we believe that the “In Their Own WORDs” project is a first but very important step in allowing the meaning to the Gospel to be understood by other culture seekers and in giving value to the other cultures as a way to show the people that they are important just as they are.
We’ve completed a recording for the Maori (New Zealand) group “Influence”.
We are now nearly done with a Navajo project from Johnny B, and look forward to completing the project and distributing 2000 copies to the folks on the Navajo reservation.
We like for you to partner with us in this project. You can pray for the project, and you can help us send this recording all over the Navajo reservation by making a donation here.
